About the Department

The Chemical Engineering Department boasts state-of-the-art lab facilities that play a pivotal role in enhancing the practical skills and knowledge of our students. These well-equipped labs not only enhance the technical skills of our students but also encourage an investigative and problem-solving approach, preparing them for the dynamic challenges of the chemical engineering field. The department is committed to maintaining and upgrading these facilities, ensuring that students receive a comprehensive and contemporary education in chemical engineering.

Key Lab Facilities:

  • Heat Transfer Lab: Equipped with cutting-edge apparatus to explore heat conduction, convection, and radiation phenomena. It provides hands-on experience in understanding heat transfer mechanisms crucial in industrial processes.
  • Chemical Reaction Engineering Lab: Students engage in experiments related to chemical kinetics, reactor design, and optimization, applying theoretical concepts to real-world scenarios.
  • Mechanical Operation Lab: Provides a comprehensive platform to study various unit operations such as crushing, grinding, filtration, and size separation.
  • Mass Transfer Lab: Equipped with sophisticated setups for studying processes like distillation, absorption, and extraction, critical in separation processes prevalent in chemical industries.

Message from Head of the Department

Myself Dr Rajesh Ghosh representing as HOD of Chemical Engineering Department, Calcutta Institute of Technology. The department has highly qualified faculty members with vast academic and industrial knowledge from various IITs, NITs & State Govt Institutions.

Our department has got 7 laboratories for graduate and post graduate programmes under MAKAUT Curriculum. Our department covers industrial training and skill development training to explore practical experience. Throughout the year our departmental students placed in reputed industries in Indian and foreign countries like Haldia Petrochemicals, Himadri Chemicals, Berger Paints, Ramco Cements, Matrix Fertilizer, ITC Papers, ITC Foods, UHV Technologies, GE Globals, Linde, Mitsubishi Chemicals, and Wacker Metro.

Objectives & Outcomes

  • PEO I: Core Process Engineering – Graduates will apply fundamental chemical engineering principles to design, analyze, and improve chemical processes in professional practice.
  • PEO II: Sustainability and Environmental Responsibility – Graduates will integrate sustainable practices and environmental regulations into engineering decisions to minimize environmental impact.
  • PEO III: Safe and Quality-oriented Practice – Graduates will practice chemical engineering with a strong focus on process safety, risk management, and quality standards.
  • PEO IV: Professional Growth and Ethical Responsibility – Graduates will pursue continuous professional development while demonstrating ethical conduct, teamwork, and social responsibility.
  • PO1: Engineering Knowledge – Focus on fundamentals (Math, Science, Engineering) applied to Complex Engineering Problems.
  • PO2: Problem Analysis – Identify and formulate problems. Key Update: Must verify the holistic nature of the problem.
  • PO3: Design/Development of Solutions – Major Change. Solutions must not only meet needs but explicitly consider public health, safety, and cultural, societal, and environmental considerations (Sustainability is now intrinsic to Design).
