About the Department

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering started functioning in the year 2004; since its inception, the Department has flourished a lot in every field, including academics, research, and other extracurricular activities. The department plays a vital role in motivating and bringing a vibrant, forward-looking environment to the college.

The department strives for excellence in research, teaching, and service, covering the fundamental as well as recent trends in the domain of computer science and information technology. Every individual student is monitored and mentored by a group of highly qualified, experienced, and dedicated faculty members. Special attention in terms of remedial classes is provided to support students who require extra academic assistance.

Learning through projects, especially in the final year, is an integral component of the academic curriculum. Students engage in minor projects, live projects, and major dissertation work to enhance their programming, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. The department actively promotes participation in workshops, NPTEL courses, seminars, coding competitions, hackathons, and various technical events, providing students with valuable practical exposure and fostering innovation, creativity, and technical excellence.

Departmental Research

Our departmental research group focuses on advancing knowledge in Natural Language Processing (NLP), Computational Linguistics, and Data Mining, with an emphasis on developing intelligent systems that can analyse, understand, and generate human language. By combining linguistic insights with modern machine learning and data-driven approaches, we address a variety of real-world challenges in language technology.

Our key research areas include Text Summarization, where we develop methods to automatically generate concise and informative summaries from large volumes of textual data, and Sentiment Analysis, which aims to identify opinions, emotions, and attitudes expressed in text. We also explore Computational Sociolinguistics, studying how language varies across social groups, cultures, and online communities, and Computational Stylistics, which focuses on analysing writing styles for applications such as authorship attribution, literary analysis, and stylistic characterization.
